Their father is Argentine of Scottish as well as English descendance. Her mother is of Spanish and English ancestry. Taylor-Joy, who is the youngest of five children, four are from Taylor's father's prior marriage. The family was within Buenos Aires until she was six years old, and then moved to the Victoria region of London. Taylor-Joy claims the move to London was traumatic and she was unable to learn English so that she could avoid returning to Argentina. Hill House had to be her new school after she changed schools from Northlands. Then she enrolled in Queen's Gate School, where she was a dancer and also performed in various productions. When she was 16 she dropped out of school in order to take on a full-time job in acting. As a child, Taylor-Joy was aware of her desire to be an actor and the dream became a reality when she got a modeling opportunity through Sarah Doukas the founder of Storm Management.
