Annette Funicello, then 13 years old, was found in the hands of Walt Disney in an amateur performance of Swan Lake performed in Fullerton California. Funicello did not get an audition when she joined The Mickey Mouse Club cast in its first season which was at her Mickey Mouse Club colleagues' displeasure. Disney's instincts were correct Funicello soon became the most loved Mickey Mouse Club performer. The show's own storyline Adventures in Dairyland also featured the actress. Funicello had to record records to achieve her goals as a teenager star. Annette didn't like her voice, but Disney hired Tutti Camerata, who went on to have a successful career in the recording business. Funicello was eventually accustomed to making records and truly liked being a part of Camerata who was one of the few arrangements of the 40s that had access to the essential elements of the early rock music. Annette Sings Anka - her third album, was the very first to use the songs of the rock star as part of her selection of songs. Funicello was the main character in Beach Party, one of five films about beach parties that were immensely successful. Usually co-starring Frankie Avalon, these films are produced by AIP however the scripts for each movie have been individually approved and read by Walt Disney to maintain Annette's clear image.
